Here's what I believe is the print ad - since that link isn't working for me. Here's the weird thing - I could understand if she'd showed them "Salome" or something. That's got a strip scene. But it was "FAUST" for the love of God! It contains a figure of the devil and some angels, but other than that, promotes NO particular religion and is considered fiction based on the German historical figure, Doctor Faustus.

However, maybe if you make it "forbidden" to children, they'll do like they do with sex, drugs and porn, and go NUTS about it! *prays*

The article said it was just a handful of students. And yes, in the first scene of the opera, Faust is considering killing himself, but calls on the devil to stop him. This is nothing that isn't in most fairy tales, though!

And there's no abortion. Marguerite does go crazy and kills her baby after it is born, but not before. This is the sin for which she's imprisoned and prays for forgiveness. Probably pretty weighty for a 1st grader, but the third graders seemed fine, according to the article I found.

Okay, I suppose that it might be a little much (i.e., scary) for 1st graders, but it's still STUPID!
